Principal Engineer – Propulsion Equipment An exciting opportunity for a Principal Engineer – Propulsion Equipment (Main Engine) has arisen to join our client in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. The successful candidate will be required to work within a cutting-edge, complex and challenging project within the defence/marine industry. As Principal Engineer – Propulsion Equipment your main responsibilities will include:- Developing the main engine, in conjunction with the supplier, for propulsion and interfacing with other systems and equipment in support of the complex engineering and cross functional tasks and programme.Your experience might include: • Interfacing with other equipment and systems• Oversight of supplier design activities and technical approval of their deliverables in conjunction with other interested parties.• Be lead technical expert and autonomous• Undertake design reviews• Requirements definition and decomposition• Dealing with internal and external customers• Deliver activities in line with schedule requirements• Heat balance model application and development• Optimisation studies to enable balanced plant architectures• Turbo-machinery design and installation• Application of thermodynamic principles• An understanding of propulsion equipment, gearbox etc• Fluid systems modelling and analysis• (Major and minor) equipment design and specification• Development of fully integrated product model• Development of system diagrams and technical specifications• Product development• Specifying and overseeing testing and trials either factory, shore based or sea trials• Design verification and validation• Technically leading and mentoring team members. At all times responsible for producing engineering solutions which are safe and meet the customer needs, working to a high quality standard in accordance with company processes and procedures.As Principal Engineer – Propulsion (Mechanical), your skills and qualifications will ideally include: You will be degree educated and be a Chartered Engineer. You will have a strong background in engineering with emphasis on fluid systems, process engineering and heat transfer supporting a wide range of mechanical plant operating in a safety critical environment. Typically your experience will be from within submarines, shipbuilding, power generation, oil & gas, or chemical and process engineering. What we're looking for in you: A competent and motivated senior engineer willing and able to take on the challenge of developing product designs managing system and arrangement trades with a range of internal and external stakeholders to realise the best design solutions. Able to analyse complex problems and identify the most critical issues, focusing on design for cost, performance, manufacture and support, delivering to exacting schedule demands.
