The Role:The Rotating Equipment Engineer will provide technical assurance, leadership, and support the detailed design phases of major EPC projects. Work activities include audit and assurance of EPCs design to Project contractual obligations and specifications through coordination with EPC counterparts and other disciplines. The industry specifications include API, ASME, ANSI, PIP and other process industry codes and standards. The Rotating Equipment Engineer will be expected to follow the project to the field to assist with construction, commissioning, and start-up activities later in the project schedule. In addition, a Lead Rotating Equipment Engineer will provide mentoring for Rotating Equipment Engineers, and stay abreast of current Rotating Equipment developments thru participation in Industry technical shows and committees. This position will initially be located in Houston and transition to the site in Hackberry, LA. Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) will be required. Audit EPC detailed EPC designs for rotating equipment; gas turbines, process compressors, drivers, gearboxes, blowers and pumps and their associated auxiliary support systems. Ensure equipment is designed and constructed: to be safe, will perform the requirements of the process, and meet the Project specifications. Review equipment inquiry/purchase requisitions & technical bid evaluations supplied by EPC for correctness of selection. Review vendor (in an audit and assurance role) drawings & data test procedures reports calculations. Attend Kick-off, Detailed Design, Model Reviews, Pre-Inspection Meetings. Familiar with and participates in Process HAZID and HAZOP analysis as needed. Familiarity and ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical diagrams, including flow charts, cause/effect diagrams, and Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&IDs). Participates in factory acceptance tests and inspections. Interface with EPC counterparts and other EPC disciplines on a project task force. Interface with other Client disciplines on a project task force. Must have a good working knowledge of API, ASME, ANSI, PIP and other process industry codes and standards. This position will have will have extensive EPC and vendor interface, so communication skills must be excellent. Should be able to track project deliverables with little or no supervision. Additional Lead Duties Mentor younger Rotating Engineers. Stay abreast of current Rotating Equipment developments thru participation in Industry technical shows and committees.Essential Skills / Qualifications:Education Requires a bachelors degree in engineering; mechanical related preferred. Experience Must have experience specifically related to various types rotating equipment; gas turbines, process compressors, drivers, gearboxes, blowers and pumps and their associated auxiliary support systems and/or skid mounted packaged systems. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities Ability to maintain multiple assignments with various deadlines and responsibility levels concurrently. Ability to deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism. Ability to communicate in a professional and effective manner, including in-person, telephone, and E-mail. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Demonstrated proficiency in referencing, researching, reporting, tracking and monitoring of activities and documents. Ability to work independently and function with limited supervision.
